City of Dreams' mission is to help youth living in low income housing build brighter futures through mentorship and youth development. Our vision is to end the generational poverty cycle.

We provide caring mentorship in group settings and one-to-one matches, designed to help young people understand the value of staying in school and avoiding teen pregnancy, drugs, and gangs.

We host over 60 experiential learning events annually designed to encourage youth to think critically. Through our youth development model combining experiential learning events and mentorship, we expand young people's perspectives and promote their self esteem.

We are currently in need of one to one and group event mentors for youth living in San Francisco's public housing communities ages 8 to 17. Our one to one mentor commitment is 2 days a month and group mentor commitment is 1 day a month.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, please email us (info@cityofdreams.org ) with your name and phone number and a little about yourself, and we'll get in touch with you.

Due to the nature of our program, we do require reliable transportation (either your own car or access to City Carshare/Zipcar), auto insurance, and a valid driver's license.

Mission Statement

City of Dreams is a non profit organization dedicated to helping youth living in our public housing communities by expanding their perspective in life, one child at a time. We provide caring, compassionate mentors in one to one relationships and group events designed to promote a child's self esteem, helping them to build a brighter future for themselves.

Description

At City of Dreams, we have a saying: Love without Limits. We believe that love comes first and love comes last. We also realize that love by itself is not enough, so we offer the support and education necessary to help shift perspective.

Mentorship Program: City of Dreams provides a two year mentorship program to our city's most challenged youth. At the end of the two year program, the children enter a new phase of mentorship with continued support. The graduates in our program are encouraged to be the leaders of the next generation, acting as Junior Mentors on our events. We focus on children between the ages of ten to fourteen, because we feel at age ten they can comprehend the power of choice and at age fourteen they are open to new concepts. We pair youth with caring mentors to help reinforce the concepts presented in our experiential learning events, in addition to providing a positive, stable, supportive role model outside of their core family.

Experiential Learning: Through our program, we encourage youth to think critically, by exposing them to a variety of experiences, exercises and events designed to teach them that "anything is possible" in life. Our experiential learning events present simple lessons to be applied by youth as tools for success today and throughout their adult lives. Ultimately, the youth empower themselves through the opportunities provided in each event and experience.

Community Development: We work together with the community to make a difference and we encourage youth to make a difference, both today and in the future. We expose our children to various cultural events and community service projects throughout the year. We believe that encouraging youth to give back to their community promotes self esteem and nurtures their leadership skills. Each year we target our own community improvement project in the public housing communities. The projects are focused on improving the quality of life for the children. Mentorship, education, and love without limits.

At City of Dreams, we are building community leaders for tomorrow. We are looking for one to one and group event mentors to participate in our program.
