I went through the long courses dedicated my time to be a volunteer. After completing my courses and doing all of my steps to be on the list, my phone number changed. I then received an email from my CASA representative saying they could not reach me and I was being removed. I call back right away to explain my phone number had changed and i did update the database & they could have simply reached out via email as they did and I would have gotten back in touch. My CASA rep then said it’s too late I have to be removed because i couldn’t be reached by phone. I dedicated so much time and effort to go through those classes and graduate and receive a certificate just to get dismissed like nothing. As though I didn’t matter nor have a say. Extremely disappointed in the program

because it seems like a very good place to find places to volunteer at.

The role of a CASA is undeniably needed within the foster system. The organization is professional and well run with great systems in place to train and guide the volunteers. It IS a commitment, but after my first year it is a commitment that is fulfilling and I am proud to say I am a CASA.

This organization does amazing work for kids who need the help so much--children in foster care who need people to advocate for them to find solutions for their long-term (and short-term) needs. I have been a CASA volunteer for one and a half years and in that time have had to immense satisfaction of working with a foster girl whose life, I can see, is tangibly better because of my work. In some volunteer jobs you show up for an hour or two and help someone and never see them again--that's fine if that is what you are looking for. But if you want to use your skills in a deeper way I highly recommend becoming a CASA volunteer.

This program is really a great concept, where volunteers have a chance to focus on a specific child and to help get them through an over-burdened dependency system. I’ve been doing this for two years, and it’s amazing to me that there is such a great need for volunteers to advocate for these children, and this program also allows you to make recommendations to a judge. This program is a great way to make a difference inside the system.

If you are looking for an incredibly rewarding, challenging, long-term commitment, CASA is for you. This organization is beyond great. Training is thorough and professional, albeit time-consuming. Ongoing support is fantastic and professional. The kids you will be helping need you, and it is an honor to be able to help them. If you have the time and the commitment, I can imagine few, if any, volunteer activities that are as important and rewarding as being a CASA.

The CASA organization trains its volunteers and takes great attention to detail, to be sure that each volunteer is well-screened and prepared to take on the very important role of being a well-informed and resourceful advocate for the foster child in need. They are continuously giving their volunteers opportunities to learn more, to received in-service training on different subject matters pertinent to the children in the foster care system. Each volunteer is paired up with a supervisor who is readily available to answer any question and assist the volunteer in the entire process. This is an invaluable organization/service to the children in the foster care system. To me, CASAs are the voice for the voiceless, the muscle for the powerless, with the hope and stamina needed to be there for the child.

A great opportunity to make a REAL impact for foster kids and our community!

I've been a CASA since 2012, and it's been one of the most meaningful volunteer experiences I've ever had. The opportunity to build an authentic, supportive relationship with a child over an extended period of time has been profound. In our role as CASAs we are also able to engage with key people in their family and in the child welfare system who can make a really difference in the child's well being. CASA of Los Angeles does a great job in training and supporting volunteers. I really encourage anyone interested in supporting youth to look into CASA. I'd especially encourage people of color and lgtbq folks to consider becoming CASAs, as the youth can definitely benefit from role models who are reflective of their identities.

The training was excellent, and the work with foster children is extremely rewarding. I would have given CASA five stars, but I have to admit that my least favorite part is going to court and waiting there for hours.

I have been a CASA volunteer for the past year. The organization does a wonderful job of providing much needed advocacy for children in foster care. This is one of the most worthwhile uses of your volunteer hours. It provides training, supervision, in-service and team work with colleagues. You will find it very rewarding!

CASA is a remarkable organization and has a great team who help train their volunteers thoroughly before being assigned a case.
I recommend this volunteer experience to anyone who is looking to develop a positive relationship with a foster youth as they navigate their way to find a permanent home and family.
This is a great organization that continues to build momentum and is admired throughout the community with its brave group of volunteers! I can always say I am glad to be a CASA!

I would recommend this organization primarily because this volunteer job gives people the opportunity to profoundly benefit the lives of children and their families. Secondly with this job you learn valuable information and receive training that is useful in many ways.

If you are interested in a challenge, learn about a world that you could never imagine, then become a CASA. I have been a CASA volunteer for just over a year, and it has been one of the most rewarding time since I retired 7 years ago. These kids have not had a break their entire lives, being their CASA could be the best thing that has ever happen to them, and in turn your reward of being able to make a difference is priceless. It hasn't been an easy journey, but be assured the CASA staff provides superior training, and ongoing support. In addition the CASA staff provides additional ongoing training in a variety of subjects that will help you work through your assigned cases. So if you want to learn something new, make a difference in a child's life and get the reward of feeling great that you are giving back to society, come join the Team!! I'm proud to be part of the CASA of Los Angeles organization.

I have been volunteering with CASA for two years. During that time I have been able to help a mother and child reunite; to help find a safe, permanent home for an abused child and to help make sure another child receives the medical, psychological and educational assistance he needs.
CASA is the most satisfying volunteer work I can imagine. As a court officer I have the ability to change the life course of a child who might otherwise be forgotten in the foster system.
The CASA organization provides excellent training and on-going support for your work with the children. This opportunity is not for everyone but for those who volunteer with CASA it is a life changing, life affirming experience.

The children and youth in the foster care system rarely have an adult, other than those who are paid by the "system," to advocate for them. A CASA is the youth's advocate whatever the need. The work can be difficult and emotional, but incredibly rewarding and gratifying. The professional staff are supportive. In a perfect world, every child in foster care would have a CASA- please help us make that a reality! "I am for the child."

I have been a CASA for 13 years and I only wish I had started sooner. Of all the volunteer work I have done, being a CASA has made me feel the most useful. There are so many children in foster care and many of them need the consistent help of a CASA in order to succeed and thrive. They often have to move to new homes which means new schools, friends, doctors, therapists etc. often the CASA is the most consistent person in their lives. I have worked with toddlers, school age and teenagers. A lot of the work I do is coordinating with all the professionals - email and phone contacts save time. I have always had a good rapport with the social workers, attorneys and judges.
The professional support staff has been marvelous - my original training was very useful, but the on-going training and consultations were even more important. Foster children don't have perfect lives, but I am always confident that the children I have worked with are better off because of the CASA program.

I did attend the orientation and loved what I learned about CASA. Unfortunately, it's very competitive (in a good way), but those who are selected are very lucky as they really get to benefit the individuals who come to CASA for assistance.

I have been a CASA volunteer for 17 years. It is one of the most meaningful things I have done in my life. I have had the privilege of assisting several children who came out of very painful family situations. Some have successfully been reunited with their families and some have found permanent loving homes through adoption. The program professionally supports and guides the volunteers' efforts, and the Dependency Court that monitors the care of foster children really values and respects the efforts of the CASA volunteers. This program trains and trusts everyday people to accept the responsibilities and authority to speak up with a powerful voice on behalf of some of our most vunerable children. There are CASA programs in most counties in our country. Another CASA once told me, "This is a true American success story". Here in Los Angeles, we have over 20,000 kids in foster care and this is a great way to help them. Please consider becoming a CASA.
