Mission Statement

Clark Public Utilities' StreamTeam Program is committed to preserving a healthy environment we can enjoy and pass on to future generations.

The CPU StreamTeam's mission is to rehabilitate, restore and enhance salmon habitat and water quality conditions for all residents of Clark County while increasing the awareness of community members.



Description

The StreamTeam program is a volunteer based stream restoration and environmental education program of Clark Public Utilities. The StreamTeam completes projects that include native tree plantings, environmental education, water quality monitoring and maintenance of our restored sites.


In addition to our restoration opportunities, we also have an extensive watershed education program that includes service learning outings and the Stream Stewards program. The Stream Stewards program is a learn-n-serve program which provides 45 hours of hands-on watershed education ranging from hydrology and geology to native plants and stream ecology in exchange for 45 hours of volunteer time. Not only is the StreamTeam committed to bringing salmon back to Salmon Creek but to facilitating meaningful, hands-on experiences in our community.

I volunteered for their Earth Day tree planting. I was alone when I went, but the volunteer leaders and other volunteers were very welcoming and friendly. By the end of the tree planting, I was tired but happy. I also appreciated the free lunch and free t-shirt. I definitely want to be a part of next year's planting, even if it rains again.

Being disabled, several volunteer activities are beyond my physical limitations. However, under Lisa's guidance the Stream Team is very well organized, better than any other volunteer group I've worked with. Thru her accomodations and Americorps follow-thru, I've been able to contribute in a variety of community outreach events. I've always felt my volunteer time was appreciated. Whether it be "advocacy tableing" or as a presenter at student tours, I do a different kind of planting; its planting seeds of thought and awareness, that in turn are self-propagating, spreading the Stream Team message. Let's get INVASIVE!

This is a great group working for a great cause; restoring waterways in Clark County. My daughter and I have volunteered several times, and they always did a great job of showing us what to do (e.g. planting trees, clearing debris, etc) and training us. You can do as much as you are physically able, and receive just the right level of supervision. All of the regular staff are positive and enthusiastic, and the volunteers tend to be "Earth Friendly." Good exercise working in the great outdoors!!!
