Mission Statement

Rakhma Homes is a non-profit organization in the Twin Cities that provides nurturing care for individuals who suffer from Alzheimer's disease or dementia. We have 4 homes located in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Golden Valley and Minnetonka. Our mission is dedicated to preserving the dignity of individuals with memory loss by providing loving, compassionate care in a familiar home setting. Our mission of care follows a person-centered care model that is unique to each individual's needs and interests. Rakhma encourages families and friends to visit often, stay for a meal or join them on a community outing.

Description

Rakhma Inc. has 4 residential homes in the Twin Cities area. Each home have a capacity of 10-15 residents.

Rakhma is not "a home"; rather, it is home, where friends sing together, take walks together, and forgive repeated stories. At Rakhma, families and friends are invited to drop in for a visit and all are encouraged to participate in the daily activities of the house: watering plants, peeling potatoes, folding towels, or simply enjoying the company of others.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to volunteer at Rakhma Homes.

I loved the thoughtful, informative training on being a great companion to those with dementia. It has been extremely useful in delivering the best volunteering with the women at Rakhma Harmony Home. This volunteer experience has definitely opened my interest to other opportunities for those who are cognitively different.

I have volunteered with Rakhma Homes since February of 2017 and have been made to feel most welcome, I now have the honor of helping on the Harmony home outings weekly. Rakhma truly is a 'home' in the real sense of the word, residents are treated like cherished family and the home that I visit in Golden Valley is very comfortable like a real home and not a 'nursing home'.
